Starting Monday, the Appleton International Airport will look a little snazzier.
It’s at the mid-point of a ten-month, $6.8 million redo that will transform everything from the ticket counters and baggage claim to TSA and gift shop.
The restaurant/waiting lounge is the part that debuts Monday, and it has a streamlined look with mid-Century modern-style furniture and a view of the tarmac.
“The TSA project was the driver for this,” said airport spokesman Patrick Tracey. “We’re adding a third TSA line, and the gift shop is moving where the restaurant was. We flipped the restaurant to look out the windows.”
In the past, arriving passengers turned right, along the windows, to get to the baggage claim. They now walk straight, through the lounge area, to a corridor on the east side of the building before turning towards the baggage claim.
If you’re in the airport to meet arriving passengers, you can wait in the restaurant/lounge area, said Tracey.
“I can see this becoming a fun coffee spot for people in the future,” he said. “You could sit here all day and watch planes.”
