All the Best Gossip About What Went Down Inside the Private Royal Wedding Reception

600 guests attended the Royal Wedding ceremony in Windsor Castle yesterday, with an estimated 18 million watching from home.

The afternoon and evening receptions, in contrast to the highly public ceremony, were intimate and closed off to press. Only 200 people were invited to second reception at Frogmore House, but the UK’s relentless royal reporters have pieced together everything that went down. It sounds like it was a great party.

The Entertainment

James Cordon is said to have emceed the evening, and the Daily Mail reports that best man Prince William gave a “naughty” toast, whatever that means.

Meghan gave a speech at the nighttime reception. E! reports she had planned to give a speech for months, with The Sunday Times reporting earlier this year that the bride wanted to do an “affectionate” tribute to her new husband and express her gratitude to her family, friends and the Queen.

Harry gave a speech at the daytime reception. People reports Harry got cheers when he said “my wife and I,” in his remarks. “It was very off-the-cuff, which was lovely,” a guest told the outlet. “He promised that all the Americans wouldn’t steal the swords and said, ‘Please, when you leave, be quiet as you don’t want to wake the neighbors,’ which was quite fun.”

Harry and Meghan’s first dance at the evening reception was reportedly to Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” according to the Telegraph. Markle told Lifestyle magazine in 2016 that it was her “happy song.”

Elton John, who played a medley of hits at the luncheon following the ceremony, also performed at the evening reception.

DJ Same Totolee, who DJed Pippa Middleton’s wedding, played a selection of Harry’s “favourite House tracks.”

Fireworks capped off the evening at 11 p.m.

Food and Drinks

The dinner, hosted and paid for by Prince Charles, was reportedly organic, and fit the theme “spring meets summer.” But Harry and Meghan know what wedding guests really want, which is cocktails and drunk food.

The bar reportedly served a cocktail of ginger and rum called “When Harry Met Meghan,” a cheeky nod to Harry’s hair color. Burgers and cotton candy were served late night.
