Meghan Markle 'Devastated' Father Has Decided Not to Attend Wedding, Source Says
Despite recent reports about her father, Meghan Markle still wants him at her and Prince Harry’s wedding on Saturday, a source tells ET.
A new report claims Thomas Markle will no longer be walking Meghan, 36, down the aisle nor will he be attending his daughter’s nuptials after he was accused of staging photos for the paparazzi.
“This was his decision entirely,” a source tells ET of the bride-to-be’s father. “Meghan would still like him to come.”
Whether Thomas will change his mind and attend the royal wedding is still unknown, and it has yet to be revealed who will walk Meghan down the aisle.
“There is no plan in place yet who will walk Meghan down the aisle,” the source adds.
On Monday, TMZ reported that Thomas would be skipping the wedding following reports that he allegedly staged photos of himself at an internet cafe where he’s seen researching Meghan and Harry on a computer. According to the website, Thomas regrets taking the photos, calling them “stupid and hammy,” and will not be attending the nuptials because he doesn’t want to embarrass his daughter or the royal family.
ET has reached out to Thomas for comment.
Following the report, which also claims Meghan’s father suffered a heart attack several days ago, Kensington Palace released a statement to ET.
“This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding,” the statement reads. “She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”
Earlier on Monday, ET’s Kevin Frazier spoke with British TV personality Piers Morgan, who is also an editor-at-large at the Daily Mail, about the allegations against Meghan’s dad.
“It’s really embarrassing, to be honest, because for the last few weeks the British press in particular have been warned off Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, told to leave him alone,” he pointed out. “Now we discover that the reason for this is he’s been colluding with a paparazzi in Mexico and staging pictures and presumably making money from them. So, mortifying for the royal family, enraging for Meghan Markle.”
Morgan added, “I think it must be so stressful anyway to build up to this wedding. She knows the eyes of the world are on her. She also knows they’re on her family and this really sensitive moment.”
