Fashion Center fills two big spaces with fitness center and HomeSense
Leases have been signed at the 37,000-square-foot space between Main Event and Raymour & Flanigan and at the 30,000-square-foot spot attached to Marshalls, said Jim Oeste, vice president of real estate for Fashion Center’s owner, Allied Property.

A new fitness club and a home goods store will fill two of the bigger vacancies at the 570,000-square-foot Fashion Center in Christiana.
Leases have been signed for Edge Fitness at the 37,000-square-foot space between Main Event and Raymour & Flanigan and for HomeSense at the 30,000-square-foot spot attached to Marshalls.
Edge Fitness, a Connecticut-based fitness club offers members amenities like group classes, personal training, tanning and massage rooms, a cafe, kids zone and more. It will be second fitness option at the Fashion Center. OrangeTheory will open this summer, MSC Retail announced last week.
Members will find affordable rates starting at $9.99 per month with plans ranging up to $29.99, according to Edge’s website.
Edge is expected to open before year’s end, said Jim Oeste, vice president of real estate for the Fashion Center’s owner, Allied Property.
The fitness company, which currently operates in Connecticut and New Jersey, will make Christiana its first landing spot in Delaware. Its website lists 17 locations with two on the way in Pennsylvania.
At the center’s southeast corner, next to the Marshalls/HomeGoods store, the off-price home furnishing store HomeSense will continue its expansion into the United States.
Both Marshalls/HomeGoods and HomeSense, which have similar price points, are owned by Massachusetts-based TJX Companies, which will now have about 75,000 square feet of leased space at the Fashion Center. TJX also owns T.J. Maxx, which operates a store just north of the mall on Churchmans Road.
TJX launched the HomeSense brand in Europe in 2008 and in Canada in 2014. In 2017, it debuted in the U.S. in Framingham, Massachusetts. Architectural Digest referred to HomeSense as a “cult favorite” for its “array of furniture and decor” with exciting, well-priced inventory.
Christiana will be among the store’s first 10 in the states when it opens in the spring of 2019.
Oeste said these additions and others put the Fashion Center at around 95 percent leased.
“There are more to come,” he said.
