Kaukauna has attracted two new locally owned businesses.
Electric City Lanes
Chef Sandra Weatherwax describes the new Electric City Lanes as “two separate restaurants.”
Yes, it’s also a bowling alley.
“On the alley side, you can get pizza, burgers and soft tacos in baskets,” she said. “On the restaurant side, you can get something nicer. Maybe it’s date night for mom and dad. They can have a nice dinner while the kids are bowling.”
The menu includes modern salads, crab cakes, scallops and Caribbean-inspired entrees like steak or Cuban sandwiches.
Electric City Lanes is at 136 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Kaukauna, in a building that has been a bowling alley since 1914. It was recently My House Bowling Bar, which closed in 2016.
Efrain “Rico” Carrasco and four local partners bought the building and remodeled it.
“Bowling alleys are coming back,” Carrasco said. “It’s different because it has the restaurant.”
They kept eight lanes, which they made into nighttime “cosmic bowling” with lasers and black lights. They removed four lanes to create space for a separate dining room and kitchen.
Wood from the removed lanes was made into tables and a bar. They added retro black-and-white Kaukauna photos and vintage-look lighting.
“We wanted to keep the history of Kaukauna,” said Carrasco, who also owns Rico’s Family Restaurant a block away.
Heather Geurts, a Kaukauna mom, got her first look at Electric City Lanes Thursday when she brought her two daughters to bowl. She remembered the way it looked before the remodel.
“They did a nice job,” she said.
