“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” production begins at Green Room Community Theatre

NEWTON — The Green Room Community Theatre’s last musical of this season, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” will open on May 11. This production will be performed in the McCreary Theatre at The Old Post Office Playhouse in historic downtown Newton.

“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is a powerful musical based on the Victor Hugo novel and featuring the music of the Disney animated film. This version of the story embraces more of the original Hugo novel to provide audiences a dynamic, serious story which soars with the fantastic music of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The show calls for a full choir as well as a strong ensemble making this one of the largest casts of the season.

The cast includes Cory Knighton as Quasimodo, Jeff Hatley as Claude Frollo, Abigail Pauley as Esmeralda, Jeremy Whitener as Phoebus, Lucas Kelly as Jehan Frollo, Haedyn Yocum as Florika, Christian Eidson as Clopin, Jesse Ramirez as Father Dupin, John David Welch as St. Aphrodisius, Christian Underwood as Frederic, and Pam Farnsworth as the Madame. The Ensemble of Storytellers are played by Heather Baynes, Jocelyn Cardona, Christian Eidson, Pam Farnsworth, Ali Huffstetler, Lucas Kelly, Samantha Muñoz, Branden Nuhfer, Zak Parton, Jesse Ramirez, Sonia Rosales, Christian Underwood, Luke Van Aarde, John David Welch, and Haedyn Yocum. The choir includes Alexis Baker, Randy Banner, Gabriel Beech, Heather Edwards, Matt Gray, Anna Green, Ashley Hood, Morgan Lane, Kaitlin McGuire, Amanda Pauley, Chris Pauley, Mika Puckett, Kat Reese, Madison Saunders, Clam Sepulveda, Laura Sparks, and Jessica Sprinkle.

Although The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases songs from the Disney animated film, the show more closely follows Victor Hugo’s novel and is of a more intense nature, therefore we are recommending the show for ages 13 and up.

There will be performances on May 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Purchase tickets online at www.apps.thegreenroomtheatre.org or at the Box Office (Wednesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.).
