Blake Lively Channeled Gossip Girl at the Met Gala Afterparty with a Full Plaid Look

After making a jaw-dropping appearance on the Met Gala red carpet, Blake Lively served major Gossip Girl nostalgia at Versace’s afterparty in a plaid-on-plaid look reminiscent of Serena van der Woodsen’s wardrobe.

The Mark Hotel in the Upper East Side (AKA Gossip Girl country), which hosted Versace’s post-ball soirée, was the perfect setting for the unexpected tribute.

Blake’s look was a lot more glam than Serena’s style might allow, but the actress was clearly dressing by her own fashion rules for the night. She wore a starched white oxford tucked into a plaid skirt made up entirely of multicolored beads. Her thigh-high boots were made of the same material. Lively draped a blue tartan coat over the full look, tying it together.

And we all know who loves a good plaid skirt:

It’s easy to get lost in her perfectly clashing prints or voluminous ringlets, but you might miss a sweet detail in Blake’s ensemble: the statement-making clutch. The statement, to be exact, is a shoutout to her husband, Ryan Reynolds. (He’s currently promoting Deadpool 2, which explains why he didn’t attend the gala with Blake).

His first initial and last name were emblazoned on the bag in crystals, no less. The “J” on the design may be a nod to their three-year-old daughter, James; which means there’s probably an “I” for their one-year-old Ines somewhere on the bag, too.

Lively’s preppy-meets-glam look followed the stunning Versace gown, which she wore to the main event. The bespoke number took over 600 hours to make, and the actress already had it picked out by March.
