Mud Lake 5k Promotes Healthier Lifestyle, From Start to Finish
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. –
The first-ever Mud Lake 5K took place on Sunday at Wheeler Park, with families excited to have a great time.
Caswell Sports Director Phil Tostenson said they created the event to promote a healthy lifestyle in North Mankato, and raise funds for the Mankato Peppers Softball team.
“We decided to try something different, we’re very good at doing field type sports,” said Tostenson.
North Mankato Councilman James Whitlock attended as well, to show support for the cause and cheer on the runners. He said
“Absolutely! It is primary for livability in this area,” said Whitlock.
Race Organizer Amber Hauschen said the route was very curvy, with runners traveling through parks and under bridges.
“They’ll go through Spring Lake Park, so they’ll take the trails around Spring Lake Park,” said Hauschen.
“And then they’ll cross the street down over Spring Lake over to Hiniker, then they’ll take the back trails over there, take the bridges over there.”
Each runner was given a medal for their hard work and success. Some people were awarded additional medals, based on how they performed in their divisions.
Runner Corey Block finished the race first and was the first male to win as well.
“I think they’re great, I think they’re a lot of fun, between my wife who’s working, me and my two sons who race today,” said Block.
We try to do as many as we can, just cause it’s fun to get out.”
After the awards, everyone seemed to have a blast, enjoying healthy snacks and the company of others.
Tostenson said he sees the event growing more next year.
