'Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition”: CBS Revisits A Twist On Its Reality Series, Sets Premiere Date
The CBS veteran reality hit Undercover Boss has been conspicuously absent from its summer schedule, and now we know why. The network today announced Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition, a spin on the series that will premiere on Monday, May 11. Check out the promo above.
The new take — which got a two-episode tryout in May 2017 — will feature such familiar faces as Olympian Gabby Douglas, Frozen star Idina Menzel, YouTuber Bethany Mota, and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. How will they avoid being recognized by their “employees”? CBS has that covered:
Yes, the bosses will be disguised with state-of-the-art prosthetic makeup and custom-made wigs, which the network said took an average of 2 1/2 hours to apply. Douglas, Menzel, Mota and Sanders are the stars of the show’s first four episodes; more will be announced later.
“Imagine if your idol could walk a mile in your shoes, recognize your special ability, and change your life forever,” series exec producer Greg Goldman said. “This is what you’ll see this season on the celebrity edition of Undercover Boss – along with state-of-the-art disguises, trickier undercover situations – and the greatest payoffs yet.”
It’s not the first time CBS has gone the celebrity route with a hit reality franchise. Along with last year’s two star-led episodes of Undercover Boss, featuring singer Darius Rucker and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson, it also counter-programmed NBC’s Winter Olympics this year with Celebrity Big Brother.
