Last Flag Flying follows three Vietnam war vets who reunite after 30 years on a road trip to bury a young marine from the Iraq War. It doesn’t sound like a barrel of laughs, granted – but Linklater has an uncanny knack of finding bittersweet humor and beauty in pretty much anything.
When it comes to newly added third party stuff, there are some cracking films to look out for.
Stellar sports movie (though it’s obviously a lot more than that) Bull Durham is my personal favorite on the May list, but also essential viewing if you’ve not seen them before are outstanding Michael Mann serial killer movie Manhunter, and David Lynch’s almost unwatchably brilliant The Elephant Man.
Worth your time, too, if you’ve got some to spare, is the original 1974 Murder On The Orient Express starring Albert Finney; bleak and often overlooked Christopher Nolan thriller Insomnia; flawed but creepily beautiful Steven Spielberg sci-fi epic A.I. Artificial Intelligence; and another strong sports movie in the shape of Eight Men Out.
If you’re in a ‘franchise’ kind of mood, meanwhile, Amazon welcomes all five Rocky films to its Amazon Video platform, as well as a selection of classic James Bond titles.
Nope, nothing crazy about this guy.
One disappointment in all this is that so far I can tell from the information provided so far, the only new Amazon content that will be available in 4K HDR is season two of You Are Wanted.

Amazon has released details on all of the 150 or so TV shows and films it’s going to be adding to its Amazon Video platform in May 2018. And it’s one of the most diverse lists we’ve seen yet, taking in everything from such child-friendly fare as Peter Rabbit and the Amazon Original series of Rocky And Bullwinkle to the guileless smut fests of Fifty Shades Freed and recent Golden Raspberry winner, Baywatch.
There’s some pretty interesting stuff tucked away between these ‘extremes’, too. For starters, as a massive fan of Peter Weir’s film of Picnic At Hanging Rock, I’m looking forward to seeing what Amazon makes of the same Australian novel source material when it launches its six-part Original series on May 25. Though I strongly recommend that you watch the film first if you haven’t seen it before – and it’s a pity this series doesn’t seem to have been made in 4K or HDR.
