Media Group buys lifestyle title SG Magazine
Recently formed publishing house Media Group has acquired 20-year-old lifestyle title SG Magazine and its accompanying website from Asia City Media Group.
The company, which is made up of the merged entities Regent Media, Pulp Kreatives, Miles Media and Key Editions, said the magazine would now be focused on “video, content marketing, website and app development”.
The announcement:
SG Magazine is one of Singapore’s most established brands for city-based news, events, dining and nightlife, having initially launched asI-S Magazine in 1995, and rebranded as SG Magazine in 2015. SG Magazine went fully digital in 2016, and now offers a range of products and services aimed at the city’s most active and affluent young professionals, reaching more than 2 million viewers each month.
“We are expanding our focus on digital solutions, including video, content marketing, website and app development,” said Dennis Pua, managing director of Media Group. “The acquisition of SG Magazine, which has a unique place in Singapore’s media landscape and which brings a strong digital focus to the group, will help us achieve this aim.”
Media Group’s other titles include luxury lifestyle titles Portfolio, Golf Asia, Solitaire and Jet Gala, home and interiors titles Square Rooms, D+A and Cromly, a growing custom content solutions division which produces titles such as the monthly inflight magazine for Scoot Tigerair Pte Ltd as well as special interest titles such as Teenage, BBC Earth and Singapore’s Child.
“SG Magazine also has a strong reputation for custom publishing in areas such as visitor media, entertainment, and the arts, so we can leverage this to expand our client base,” Pua added.
Greg Duncan, CEO of Asia City Media Group, said the acquisition was well-timed to take advantage of initiatives that SG Magazine has been developing over the past year. “We have repositioned the brand, enhanced our digital skill-set, and created many new ways for clients to reach our loyal audience,” Duncan added. “We believe that being part of a bigger group with multiple titles creates synergies to benefit both sides. Our team is top-notch, and their digital skills can help Media Group grow that side of its business.”
