Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson Praise Carrie Underwood's Comeback at ACM Awards (Exclusive)
Carrie Underwood certainly has two A-list fans! The 35-year-old performer made a triumphant return to the stage at Sunday night’s Academy of Country Music Awards, belting out “Cry Pretty.”
The performance marked Underwood’s first since her fall outside of her home last November and her resulting facial injury. Naturally, the crowd loved the American Idol winner’s comeback performance, cheering her on.
ET’s Nancy O’Dell caught up with the show’s host, Reba McEntire, backstage afterwards where she gushed about Underwood.
“I’m very proud of Carrie. She’s gone through a lot, and I am proud that she’s back on the stage again,” McEntire, 63, told ET. “She’s a tremendous vocalist, incredible – got legs to die for, but she’s an incredible vocalist.”
Also a big Underwood fan – fellow Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson! The 35-year-old “Love So Soft” singer spoke with ET about the recent poll pitting her against Underwood.
“It doesn’t matter what spectrum – if you’re no. 1 you’re no. 1, or no. 6 you’re no. 6 – as long as you’re doing what you love,” she said. “I know it sounds cheesy, it really does, but so many people go down bad paths, end up in rehab all these things happen to them because you’re just not focusing on what makes you happy – that’s what I wanted to focus on – we’re moms, we’re CEOs, we’re killing it – so that’s why I was saying don’t do that to us.”
Clarkson added of Underwood, “It’s great that she’s better.”
