Gossip: London duo eye Barca star; Drinkwater's capital move?
SPURS AND WEST HAM JOIN BATTLE FOR BARCA MIDFIELDER
Tottenham and West Ham are supposedly interested in Portugal midfielder Andre Gomes, who last month spoke about Barcelona being ‘a kind of hell’. So what he might make of the London Stadium is anyone’s guess…
Regardless, according to Sport, the Hammers are rivalling Spurs – and Manchester United too, if you believe all the whispers over the last year – for the 24-year-old, who has endured a difficult couple of seasons at the Nou Camp after joining from Valencia. In 77 appearances, Gomes has offered three goals and four assists.
Mauricio Pochettino may see the former Benfica star as a replacement of sorts for Mousa Dembele, who has made secret of the fact that he’s considering his future with only a year left on his deal at Spurs.
HAMMERS TRACK CHELSEA OUTCAST TOO
West Ham are also being linked with another midfield flop, this time a little closer to home.
The Telegraph suggests they will make Danny Drinkwater an offer to end his Chelsea frustration, which has involved five Premier League starts during an injury-hit season since moving from Leicester last summer.
Of course, Drinkwater would be daft to make any rash decisions before he discovers who will be in charge at Chelsea next season – it seems increasingly likely that it won’t be Antonio Conte. Another stumbling block for West Ham could be Chelsea’s valuation. It is suggested the Blues will look to recoup most, if not all, the £35million they paid last year.
Chelsea are more willing, apparently, to get another midfielder, Tiemoue Bakayoko, off their books, with Monaco supposedly willing to take him back.
PSG OPEN COURTOIS TALKS
Another potential exit from Stamford Bridge could well be Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgium goalkeeper has never made any secret of the fact he sees Chelsea as a stepping stone, and though Real Madrid always appeared his most likely destination in the case of Manchester United refusing to put out over David De Gea, it seems PSG could be the new favourites for his signature.
According to RMC Sport, talks between the Ligue 1 side and Courtois’ camp have already taken place, with the former Atletico Madrid keeper closing in on the final year of his contract in west London.
AND THE REST
Ander Herrera does not know if he will renew his deal at Man Utd…Everton want to sign Nantes teenager Kamal Bafounta…Gareth Bale still wants to stay at Real Madrid…Newcastle are interested in Sunderland’s Joel Asoro, 18, and Josh Maja, 19.
