Buzz on Valley Biz: Former site of Cables Restaurant on Ventura Blvd. will soon reopen under new name and look

A Woodland Hills plaza will soon welcome visitors after a major facelift.

The former Woodland Hills Village Plaza Shopping Center at 20929 Ventura Blvd. has been renovated and rebranded as the Valley Country Mart. It’s expected to launch in the summer.

New York-based developer Atlas Capital Group is hoping the market will become a new shopping and dining destination for Valley residents.

Its long-term tenant Cables Restaurant vacated the site about a year ago after more than 40 years of anchoring the plaza.

The plans for who will replace the popular restaurant are still cooking.

“We wanted to bring someone of the same caliber,” said Joseph Miller, a co-founder of Runyon Group, a real estate firm. “We’re working with several independent restaurants.”

The plaza is expected to house about 30 businesses along with a larger parking lot, outdoor seating area and at least four restaurants.

Some of the tenants will include Lodge Bread Co., Blue Bottle Coffee, Healthy Greens, Vaziri Alternative Medicine and Boulevard Pilates.

A representative for Atlas Capital Group said the developers were not looking for large retailers but rather “fresh” independent stores, businesses and coffee shops.

A parking lot will include about 145 stalls, according to the city planning department’s website.

“People will meet each other from the different parts of the Valley,” Miller said. “So we wanted to make sure the parking is plentiful.”

Developers were focused on keeping the character of the original buildings, many of them were built in the 1960s, and used light touches and landscaping to create an area where residents can spend time outdoor with their families.

Miller declined to reveal the project’s budget but said it was in the range of several million dollars.

The market is located within a few miles from the Westfield Topanga & The Village in Woodland Hills. Still, the owners are confident the plaza will attract enough visitors.

“We will have a local collection of independent shops rather than national places,” he said. “It’s a different flavor and vibe.”
