GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida announced Thursday that UF alums Gary Condron and Bill Heavener will serve as the “celebrity head coaches” for the Orange & Blue spring game on Saturday.
Both men are part of the Gator Boosters board of directors and have made significant contributions to Florida athletics and the university.
Heavener, who is chair of the UF board of trustees and a past president and legacy director for Gator Boosters, has his name on the Heavener School of Business, Heavener Hall and the Heavener Football Complex at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Condron and his wife Nancy have donated to support Florida athletics, the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars and the College of Design, Construction and Planning.
“The guest head coaches are going to have the opportunity, they can say ‘run-pass, play-action, blitz or play base defense.’ One of those deals,” Gators coach Dan Mullen said. “And then specific plays will be called on how we split the [coaching staff]. Each coach will call the plays for their own team, offensively and defensively.”

Mullen said the Gators will have a draft Friday to split the roster into two teams for the spring game.
“I’ve always done it that way. It’s not like the 1s against the rest of the team or some other thing. We’ll find a way to have a game and we’ll have two different teams going at it, so it should be a fun weekend,” Mullen said.
He’s been intent on spreading his message throughout campus, town and the state, for that matter, that he hopes to pack The Swamp on Saturday.
The largest Florida spring game attendance on record was 65,000 in 2009.
The team will arrive at The Swamp for Gator Walk at 1 p.m. with kickoff set for 3 p.m. The spring game will be televised on SEC Network.
