Where's the Oscar Buzz for These New Films?

It’s looking like a great weekend to go to the movies. Between the suspenseful horror film A Quiet Place, the raunchy but heartfelt comedy Blockers, and the rousing Ted Kennedy biopic Chappaquiddick, there’s something for nearly everyone out there—unless you’re looking for some early-in-the-year Oscar buzz. On this week’s episode of the Little Gold Men podcast, Mike Hogan,Richard Lawson,Katey Rich, and Joanna Robinson discuss these new releases, which—despite buzz from festivals as varied as Toronto and SXSW, and solid reviews across the board—aren’t likely to launch the for-your-consideration campaigns they might deserve. So what gives?

Also on this week’s episode, a conversation about the new TBS series The Last O.G., which stars Tracy Morgan in a comeback performance, as well as last year’s Girls Trip breakout Tiffany Haddish. It is, in fact, never too early to start talking about Emmy campaigns, and these two both deserve them.
