STAUNTON – A new flight service will start at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport and you can now order alcohol with Kroger’s online grocery service — here’s the buzz.

Flights

Starting April 3, the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD) will have a new daily jet service.

Operated by SkyWest Airlines, the daily flights will provide Valley travelers access to United’s global network via the airline’s Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles hubs, a release said.

Each of the daily flights from Shenandoah Valley to Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles has been timed to provide maximum connection opportunities for both business and leisure travelers. Passengers will fly on 50-seat Bombardier-manufactured Canadair Regional Jet, CRJ200.

The switch to SkyWest comes nearly a year after SHD made the switch to ViaAir, which had weekly arrivals to and from Charlotte Douglas International Airport and then down to Orlando on a 50-seat Embraer 145 regional jet by airliner.

Customers may book flights immediately at United.com or by calling United reservations at 1-800-864-8331.

About SkyWest Airlines

Headquartered in St. George Utah, SkyWest Airlines is a leading air service provider offering global access to millions of people each month, the release said. SkyWest partners with the world’s largest network carriers including United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

With a fleet of 423 aircraft, SkyWest’s more than 12,500 aviation professionals operate more than 2,000 flights each day to 237 destinations throughout North America, the release said. Visit Skywest.com for more information.

Kroger

Grocery store pick-up just got a little sweeter. Kroger customers now can buy adult beverages through ClickList, the grocer’s online ordering service, and pick them up at the Staunton store.

The online ordering service started at the Staunton store in November. Now, nearly all beer and wine offered in a Kroger store is available on ClickList, approximately 1,000 items at each store, a release said.

“We carry a full variety of beer and wine,” said Allison McKee, corporate affairs manager for Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division.

How it works

Customers select a time to pick up their orders with four hours’ notice.

Customers will have an hour pick-up window where they can pull into the Kroger parking lot and have designated parking spots for ClickList customers, on the pharmacy side of the store. There is a number to call once the customer has arrived to alert Kroger they are there for pick-up.

The first three orders will be free, after that there is a $4.95 service charge for each order. There is no minimum purchase required. Customers place their order at Kroger.com/ClickList and search by entering beer or wine and specific brands also can be entered.

“We’ve had requests from customers to offer alcoholic beverages since we introduced ClickList in 2016,” McGee said in a release. “With this update in technology and a change in Virginia law, we’ve responded to customers.”

Alcoholic beverages are ordered along with any food or grocery item. Kroger offers more than 40,000 items through ClickList, including fresh meat and produce.

Virginia law prohibits tobacco products and pharmacy prescriptions from being sold on ClickList and hot foods and gift cards also are excluded.

Kroger began online ordering nearly two years ago in the Mid-Atlantic Division, which includes stores in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. A total of 49 stores in the Mid-Atlantic Division now offer ClickList.
