(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and a member of the House intelligence committee, supports the ongoing investigation of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller into alleged Trump-Russia coordination during the 2016 campaign.

Appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Gowdy described Mueller as an “independent ball-and-strike caller” who is the nation’s “best hope of finding out” what went on in 2016.

“Congressional investigations leak like the gossip girls. They — I mean, they’re terrible. And I would be telling you that if I were staying in Congress. They’re just not serious. Serious investigations don’t leak.

“Serious investigations don’t make up their mind first and then go in search of the evidence to validate your previously held convictions.”

Gowdy also criticized the intelligence committee’s ranking Democrat, Adam Schiff of California, who frequently appears on cable news shows to hint at malfeasance by the Trump campaign and incompetence on the part of committee Republicans.

“I think Adam Schiff, in March of 2017, said he had evidence — more than circumstantial, but not direct. And, oh, by the way, there is no body of evidence that’s more than circumstantial, but not direct,” said Gowdy, a former prosecutor.

“But he said he had it of collusion. And we have been waiting for over a month now — for over a year now for him to actually produce that evidence. That is not serious. And I’m hoping that either the Senate investigation or Mueller will be more objective.”
