Strong celebrity support for today's marches demanding gun control

The nationwide March for Our Lives movement steps off in cities throughout the country today. The young activists organizing the events have strong celebrity backing.

“Time for gun laws to change,” posted Marvel star Chris Evans, appearing as Captain America next in Atlanta-filmed “Avengers: Infinity War” next month.

“We stand in solidarity with the survivors of gun violence and student activists who are calling for action on common sense gun safety laws,” reality star Khloe Kardashian posted.

The main event, in Washington DC, has been put together by Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students in response to the massacre at their school last month. Suspect Nikolas Cruz, 19, is accused of opening fire at the Parkland, Fla., school on Feb. 14, leaving 17 dead and many others injured.

George and Amal Clooney are among the prominent backers, announcing a $500,000 donation to help with logistics. Moved by their support, Oprah Winfrey matched the gift.

Locally, U.S. Rep. John Lewis will give keynote remarks.

Here’s a look at some of the celebrity support behind today’s demonstrations.

The young people of this generation give me so much hope. Are u listening @GOP? Time for gun laws to change. And for you 2A-ers, relax, no one is saying you cant own a gun, your right to ‘bear arms shall not be infringed’. Just looking for common sense reform! #NationalWalkoutDayhttps://t.co/jB7NCb0MJj

George and Amal, I couldn’t agree with you more. I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to ‘March For Our Lives.’ These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard.
