Chris Evans is ready to retire from Marvel movies
Chris Evans has revealed he is ready to retire from Marvel movies.
The actor has played Captain America since the 2011 movie, Captain America: The First Avenger. He will reprise the role in the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War and the as-yet-untitled fourth Avengers movie, which is due for release next year.
The latter is his last contracted appearance as the superhero, and he told the New York Times he expects it to be his last in Captain America’s red, white and blue suit. “You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he said.
Evans is scheduled to film reshoots for Avengers 4 later this year. The film is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
Meanwhile, last year Marvel boss Kevin Feige said Avengers 4 will be a “finale” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an interview, he said the film will be a major moment in the canonical universe, and will “bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale.”
A number of actors who play the universe’s key characters – including Evans – will see their current contracts come to an end after Avengers 4. Others include Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Feige’s comments seem to suggest that we could see some dramatic ends to the characters’ storylines.
