Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe reportedly kept memos regarding President Donald Trump.

Late-night hosts played catch up Monday evening, following an eventful weekend that included the firing of former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe and Trump’s subsequent tweets in which he delighted in the decision. The president also took aim at special counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating Russia’s possible involvement in the 2016 elections.

“Man, crazy (expletive) happens so fast in this presidency, sometimes it feels like I’m binge-watching it,” Meyers marveled during his “Closer Look” segment, comparing covering the frenetic Trump administration to Netflix.
Of McCabe’s firing, Meyers remarked, “Trump’s such an idiot. He keeps firing dudes who take meticulous notes, and something tells me when you compare (James) Comey’s and McCabe’s notes side by side, they’re gonna match up.” And what did Meyers predict their notepads read? “This dude is cray.”
The comic seemed more accepting of Trump’s tweet from Sunday in which he claimed McCabe did not take notes in his presence. “I don’t believe he made memos except to help his own agenda, probably at a later date,” the president wrote. “Same with lying James Comey. Can we call them Fake Memos?’ “
“Sure, bro. You’re the president. Call ’em whatever you want,” Meyers said. “Call ’em ‘fake memos,’ and when you’re on trial, you can call it a fake trial. And when you’re in jail for the rest of your life — hey, it’s fake jail.”
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert also seemed nonchalant about Trump’s propensity for using the term “fake memos.”
“You can call them whatever you want,” the Late Show leader said. “But Mueller’s gonna call them evidence.”
Colbert was much more critical about Trump’s online gloating about McCabe’s termination.
“To avoid looking like he’s trying to shut down the Russia investigation, all Trump had to do was not dance on McCabe’s grave,” Colbert said taking a pause. “So, he tweeted, ‘Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hardworking men and women of the FBI – A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!’
“And, Mr. Trump knows a lot about choir boys,” Colbert continued, “because everyone who works for him is gonna sing.”
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah

Trump’s mention of Mueller convinced Trevor Noah that the Commander-in-Chief is contemplating firing him.
“He’s definitely considering it,” the Daily Show host said in the NSFW segment. “You know how they say men think about sex every eight seconds? That’s what Trump does with firing people. Yeah, when Trump meets a new person, that’s what he fantasizes about.”
Noah concluded by issuing a warning directly to Mueller.
“Robert Mueller, I don’t know when your next birthday is,” the comedian said, “but something tells me the president may be planning a surprise.”
