Jim Carrey's 'monstrous' Sarah Huckabee Sanders portrait is just his latest skewering Trump, the GOP

Jim Carrey is facing both backlash — and praise — for tweeting out a garish-looking portrait that many see as White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, accompanied by a caption that calls her “monstrous” and a “so-called Christian whose only purpose is to lie for the wicked.”

Some Twitter users accused the actor-turned-artist of cruelly shaming Sanders, or of taking a dig at Christianity, Fox News reported. Others called him a “bullying” has-been or “a liberal Hollywood hypocrite.”

“This is just one more example of how Hollyweird empowers women!,” tweeted a woman who identifies herself as a Georgia artist and mother of four. “#JimCarrey is just doing his portion, right Jim? He’s a has been!!”

But others think Carrey is “telling the truth” about Sanders and her role in the White House — working for a “bigoted” adulterer who maligned former President Barack Obama, a Christian, who has “lived a much more respectable life than Trump.”

Anybody that does Trump’s bidding without batting an eyelash should be ridiculed.

Whatever people think of this portrait, which Carrey and his spokesman declined to specifically identify as Sanders, it is part of a series that he’s executed over the past several months that satirize President Donald Trump and Republican congress members who support him and his agenda.

Carrey started his anti-Trump portraits in November, around the one-year of anniversary of Trump’s victory in the 2016 election, the Daily Beast reported. In a 2017 video, Carrey said he began painting six years ago to “heal a broken heart” following his breakup from Jenny McCarthy.

He said his paintings — like those of other artists — reflect what he’s feeling or thinking in his “inner life.”

“I think what makes someone an artist is they make models of their inner life,” he said in the video. “They make something come into physical being that is inspired by their emotions or their needs or what they feel the audience needs.”

So, it would seem that Carrey has pretty strong feelings about the president and the GOP, or he believes he’s serving a strong need of his some 17 million Twitter followers.

The first of his anti-Trump cartoons came out November 12, the Daily Beast said. It shows Trump kissing the rear end of Russian president Vladmir Putin, accompanied by the caption, “They bailed him out, set him up and made him their stooge. With Trump in the WH, Putin may win the 3rd World War without firing a shot. #PuckerUpPOTUS.”

Carrey also took aim at Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan over the Republican tax bill. He branded McConnell and the GOP “soulless traitors, liars and thieves” and called Ryan a “creep” for his “tone-deaf” boast that the bill would bring a secretary an extra $1.50 per week in her paycheck.

The GOP and WH have become sinister conclaves of souless traitors, liars and thieves – a gangrene we must remove so democracy can live. #killthebillpic.twitter.com/DzXdh68qVB

Tone deaf Paul Ryan brags that his tax bill is going to make low income voters an extra $1.50 a week! That’s almost enough for a box of Band-Aids. Who needs healthcare? WAKE UP REPUBLICAN BASE! The responses by Trump and Republicans to the Parkland, Florida school shooting also became a subject for Carrey. He created an image blasting Trump for playing golf the weekend after 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by a former student armed with a legally-purchased AR-15 assault rifle, the Daily Beast noted.

It’s President’s Day and Chief Little Hands has been busy tweeting from his golf resort, a chip shot away from the latest bloody school shooting. He was hoping to play a few holes while grieving families are busy digging them. I support @cameron_kasky#neveragainpic.twitter.com/ndJcrk3Sw5

He also showed Florida Senator Marco Rubio with literal blood on his hands for taking in a reported $3.3 million in donations from the National Rifle Association.

But even someone outside of the Trump orbit got the Carrey treatment, though for actions that are said to have benefited Trump in the 2016 election.

That person on the receiving end of Carrey’s ire was Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg. Carrey released this portrait of Zuckerberg in early February, with a thumbs down to announce he was dumping his stock in the social network and deleting his Facebook page following news that the company had sold political ads to Russian-linked accounts between 2015 and 2017.

I’m dumping my @facebook stock and deleting my page because @facebook profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it. I encourage all other investors who care about our future to do the same. #unfriendfacebookpic.twitter.com/KHWgZzhhmp

Let’s block ads! (Why?)
