Rumors of chaos, disorder, and imminent firings and hirings have
plagued President Donald Trump’s White House since its early
days, but that may be Trump’s intention.
After Trump said he would replace Secretary of State Rex
Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, Vanity Fair reported that two
Republicans in contact with the White House said there have been
discussions that Trump could replace Attorney General Jeff
Sessions with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott
Pruitt.
“But if Trump has settled on a concrete plan to replace any of
them, it’s news to his closest advisers,” Axios’s Jonathan Swan wrote,
after speaking to a group of Trump aides that traveled with him
to Missouri on Wednesday.
While few of Trump’s cabinet members have avoided controversy,
and reports of Trump becoming angry at members of his inner
circle have become commonplace, Swan suggested that Trump’s
off-the-cuff speaking style and love of rumors and gossip has
been driving the narrative.
Trump “keeps [rumors] alive in the rumor-sphere with his own
constant, unguarded ramblings,” wrote Swan. “And the people he
talks to do not feel compelled to keep any of this to themselves
– because they know Trump doesn’t care.”
