Celebrity Magnet Tutto Il Giorno Eyes New Sag Harbor Outpost
The Hamptons may soon have another celebrity magnet restaurant this summer. Gabby Karan de Felice has taken over the space in the middle of Sag Harbor for an outpost of her popular Italian restaurant Tutto Il Giorno, which has locations in Southampton and Tribeca. The new location will be in the former Muse in the Harbor space, at 16 Main St.
The original location of Tutto Il Giorno first opened in Sag Harbor in 2006 with Scott Conant as chef; Karan de Felice, who owns the restaurant with her husband Gianpaolo de Felice, then partnered with chef Maurizio Marfoglia two years later. The restaurant became a celebrity magnet, with everyone from Calvin Klein to Sarah Jessica Parker to Keith Richards dining there — fueled in part by Karan de Felice’s famous mother, design icon Donna Karan.
Karan de Felice and Marfolglia split last May. Marfoglia kept the original 6 Bay Street space and changing the name to Dopo La Spiagia, and Karan tried to open a new branch in Montauk. That fell through for her last summer, and she is now returning to Sag Harbor, just blocks from the original location. This might lead to some healthy competition, as the restaurants have strikingly similar menus, including starters of pane carasau or burrata; rigatoni with sausage and peas; chicken “under the brick’’; and braised short rib. Word is that Donna Karan, will also be relocating her Urban Zen shop into the new space as well.
In a 2016 profile titled “Gabby Karan de Felice Is Vying to Become the Ultimate Hamptons Hostess,” Karan de Felice talked business ambitions, including eyeing a new hotel project. No recent word on that, but she and her husband do reportedly have a space at the massive new Hudson Yards development opening in March 2019.
