OSU basketball: Mike Boynton invited to play in celebrity tournament during Final Four weekend
Whether or not his Oklahoma State team makes a run to the Final Four, Mike Boynton will have an opportunity to take the court in San Antonio at the end of the month.
While OSU (18-13, 8-10 Big 12) arrived for its final practice at home before departing for the Big 12 tournament Monday, Boynton revealed he was invited to participate in a celebrity basketball tournament during Final Four weekend in San Antonio. The tournament, called the Celebrity Crunch Classic, takes place at 11 a.m. on March 31 and is sponsored by Kellogg’s.
Here’s why Boynton is interested: Shaquille O’Neal and Magic Johnson will be celebrity coaches for “Team Pringles” and “Team Cheez-It.”

“I’ll have to do some work between now and then to try and play up to their standards,” Boynton joked.
Boynton, who often gets physically involved in his team’s practices, finished his college career at South Carolina 14 years ago this month with a first-round loss in the NCAA Tournament. He immediately entered coaching, but he sized up what kind of game he still has on Monday.
“I don’t dunk,” Boynton said. “I never was a dunker. Do have pretty good court vision still. Don’t have the quickness I used to have, but I make up for it with my intellect.”
