Best Buy plans to close all 250 of its small Best Buy Mobile satellite stores by May 31 to increase profitability at a time of intense competition, according to reports from Reuters and the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Best Buy Mobile has a small store inside the Fox River Mall, next to Victoria’s Secret in the Sears wing.
Best Buy did not immediately reply to a request for information on the local store.

Most Best Buy Mobile locations are in malls. Best Buy also sells mobile phones and accessories in its larger stores. It has a large, freestanding store near the mall at 4240 W. Wisconsin Ave.
While the Best Buy Mobile stores were said to be less profitable, the company as a whole reported better-than-expected fourth quarter results on Thursday, with comparable store sales increasing 9 percent.
Strong results were due to better product availability, improved consumer confidence, strength in the gaming category and the “exit or decline of certain competitors,” said chief financial officer Corie Barry in a company release.
Electronics retail competitors that have closed stores in recent years include RadioShack and HHGregg.
